Ends & Beginnings - a personal message

Sanju & I, Autumn 2015

The end of an era approaches. After months of deliberation, I've taken the difficult decision to close Mero Retro Dalston - most likely in this coming Autumn/Winter season - and take the business online only. It's no reflection on the shop itself or our lovely customers: after every lockdown sales have bounced back and Mero Retro Dalston has continued to do well, with sales approaching pre-pandemic levels. So I want to say a heartfelt 'THANK YOU!' to you all for your kind support. It's not economics that has tipped my hand but considerations much closer to home.

As most of you know, last year, just before the first lockdown in March 2020, we lost Sanju, my soul mate, business partner and the fabulous founder of Mero Retro, to brain cancer. Since then, throughout the cycles of lockdowns and re-openings I wrestled with  the question of how best to take Mero Retro forward. As I did so I realised that, whatever else, I need to reorganise my life to be able to spend more time with our daughter, Sruti. I considered recruiting staff to run the shop, but, as some of you will know, our little corner of Bradbury Street and Gillett Square has been subject to an extraordinarily high level of crime and anti-social behaviour. After 6 years I know most of the worst offenders and can deal with the alcoholics, addicts, mentally unstable individuals and crack dealers, but I can't in good conscience put other people in the same situation.

Fear not though: the shop will be closing but Mero Retro will live on! We have new designs in production right now and we'll be expanding our collections of Fairtrade and ethically produced pieces, our selection of gorgeous vintage kimono and handmade jewellery on meroretro.com once the shop has closed. Sanju and I had planned to take the business online only from the very inception of Mero Retro Dalston, but of course I never imagined the transition would take place under such circumstances. I'm going to miss our beautiful shop and our amazing customers, but all good things have their time and this wonderful chapter is coming to an end, but not without a couple of banging parties and celebratory Sales! There are plenty of new adventures on the horizon so please stay tuned.
With love and thanks,
Ro 🙏🏽

Vintage Sizing and Measurements

Vintage sizing and modern sizing can be very different. Because of this, we provide detailed measurements of all vintage clothing to help you determine whether or not a garment will fit correctly. An assessment of the estimated modern size will be noted, as well as any sizes on the tag, but please refer to measurements to best determine fit.

A good way to determine fit:

* Find a similar item in your wardrobe.
* Measure it according to our measurement guidelines.
* Compare your measurements to those of the vintage item you are interested in.
* You're done. If it's a good fit, make it yours!

We do occasionally pin clothing to fit our models, so please read all measurements carefully. We do not accept returns for vintage merchandise that does not fit. If you have any questions about our sizing/measurements, please contact us at info@meroretro.com.

All bust, waist, and hip measurements are taken straight across while garment is laid flat. Please double bust, waist, and hip measurements.
